Computer Networking Course
Course Overview

The curriculum follows the our published course modules and weights them the way the exam does — troubleshooting carries the most marks, so it gets the most lab time. You build environments, break things deliberately, and fix what you did not build.

The course includes hands-on labs, project-based learning, and mock exams so you enter the Computer Networking test confident and prepared.

Prerequisites for Networking Training
  • Basic knowledge of Linux commands and system administration.
  • Familiarity with containers (Docker or Podman) and their usage.
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals such as IPs, DNS, and firewalls.
  • Prior exposure to cloud platforms (Computer Networking, Azure, or GCP) is helpful but not mandatory.
  • Basic scripting knowledge (Bash or Python) is an added advantage.
  • No prior Computer Networking experience required — fundamentals are covered in the training.
What You'll Learn
  • Designing and operating Computer Networking clusters.
  • Working through every module of the published syllabus with hands-on labs.
  • Designing VPCs with public and private subnets, NAT and security groups.
  • Building real environments from a written requirement, not from a slide.
  • Applying least-privilege access and sensible security defaults.
  • Monitoring, logging and structured troubleshooting.
Computer Networking Course Syllabus

The curriculum covers all essential course modules with practical labs and exam-focused mock tests.

  • The OSI and TCP/IP models used as diagnostic tools, not exam trivia
  • Encapsulation, framing and what a packet looks like on the wire
  • Bandwidth, latency, jitter and loss — and which one your problem really is

  • Copper and fibre media, connectors, and the distance limits that bite
  • MAC addressing, ARP and how a switch builds its table
  • Duplex and speed mismatches, and the errors they produce

  • VLANs, access and trunk ports, and inter-VLAN routing
  • Spanning tree: why loops happen and what the protocol does about them
  • Link aggregation, and what happens when both ends disagree

  • IPv4 subnetting by hand, until you can do it without a calculator
  • IPv6 addressing, address types and why it is not simply longer IPv4
  • Designing an addressing plan from a real requirement

  • Reading a routing table and predicting which route wins
  • Static and default routing, and dynamic routing with OSPF
  • NAT and PAT, and what breaks when both ends are behind NAT

  • DHCP, DNS and NTP — the three that cause most user-visible outages
  • HTTP, HTTPS and TLS at the level a network engineer needs
  • Syslog and SNMP for knowing something broke before the phone rings

  • Radio basics, channels, interference and why the survey matters
  • Access points, controllers, roaming and capacity planning
  • WPA2 and WPA3, and why an open guest network is a liability

  • Firewalls, access control lists and network segmentation
  • Common attacks at Layer 2, and the switch features that stop them
  • VPNs: site-to-site and remote access, and where each fits

  • A structured method: isolate the layer before you touch anything
  • ping, traceroute, packet capture and reading a capture without panic
  • Building a baseline so you can tell 'slow' from 'slower than usual'

  • Configuration management for network devices, and why it caught on late
  • REST APIs and structured data instead of screen-scraping the CLI
  • What a network engineer needs from Python, and what they do not
What This Networking Course Is — and What It Is Not
No exam, and we are not going to pretend otherwise

This is a skills course, not certification preparation. There is no vendor exam attached to it, no passing score, and no industry body that issues a credential for it. What you get from us at the end is a course completion certificate, which is a record of attendance and work done — it is not a vendor certification, and we will not describe it as one.

We are explicit about this because a lot of “networking certification” courses sold in India are exactly this course with a certificate printed at the end. If a vendor credential is what you want, the honest route is Cisco CCNA (200-301), and we run a separate programme for it. What this course does is give you the foundation CCNA assumes you already have.

Delivery: live online sessions across India, with classroom sessions at our Kharadi campus in Pune.

Where This Course Leads
If you want to… Then the honest next step is
Earn a recognised networking credential Cisco CCNA (200-301). A 120-minute exam set by Cisco, no prerequisites, valid 3 years. This course covers the addressing, switching, routing and services that exam stands on. See our CCNA programme.
Move into cloud rather than on-premises networking Learn cloud administration next — virtual networks, security rules and load balancing build directly on what you learn here.
Move into systems administration System administration, then Linux certification. Servers make far more sense once the network under them does.
Stay hands-on in support or operations This course alone is usually enough. The troubleshooting method is the part that changes your working day.
How the Course Is Taught
  • Subnetting until it is automatic: not a lookup table, but enough repetition that you can work an address plan out in your head. This single skill separates people who understand networks from people who have read about them.
  • Labs on real topologies: you build multi-switch, multi-router networks from a written requirement, then break them deliberately and repair them.
  • A troubleshooting method, not a list of commands: isolate the layer first, change one thing at a time, and know what evidence would prove you wrong.
  • Packet captures read properly: most people find a capture intimidating. It is a skill, it is teachable, and it settles arguments nothing else can.
  • Honest scoping: if what you actually need is CCNA, or if you already configure switches at work and this would be beneath you, we will tell you in the first conversation.
  • Full syllabus published up front: every module is listed on this page before you enrol, not released after you pay.
A Note on Sources

Because there is no vendor exam behind this course, there is no external syllabus for us to cite — the syllabus above is ours. Where the material overlaps a vendor certification we name it and link to that vendor’s own page, so you can judge the overlap yourself rather than taking our word for it. The CCNA details referenced above come from Cisco’s CCNA certification page. We last checked these on 30 August 2026.

Networking Lab Work You Do in This Programme
Why networking cannot be learned by reading

Every network problem you will meet at work is a mismatch between what you believe is configured and what actually is. You cannot develop a sense for that from a textbook, because a textbook never lies to you. A lab does — a trunk that looks up but passes no traffic, a route that exists but is never selected, a DHCP scope that hands out an address on the wrong subnet.

So the work below is all building and breaking. Each lab ends with you writing down what you thought would happen, what did happen, and how you closed the gap. Sessions run live online across India, and the same labs run in the classroom at our Kharadi campus in Pune.

Lab List
  • Addressing plan from a requirement: given departments, host counts and growth expectations, produce an IPv4 plan with no wasted space, then repeat it in IPv6 and explain why the approach changes.
  • Switch fundamentals: watch a switch build its MAC table, then create a duplex mismatch on purpose and read the error counters it produces.
  • VLANs and trunking: segment a network across three switches, configure trunks, then mismatch a native VLAN and work out from the symptoms alone what you did.
  • Spanning tree in action: deliberately create a loop, watch what happens to the network, then let spanning tree resolve it and identify which port blocked and why.
  • Inter-VLAN routing: route between segments, then apply an access control list that permits what the policy allows and nothing else — and test it properly.
  • Static and dynamic routing: connect three sites with static routes, add a backup path, then replace it all with OSPF and compare how each behaves when a link fails.
  • NAT and the real internet: give a private network outbound access, publish one internal service inbound, and inspect the translation table while traffic flows.
  • DHCP, DNS and NTP together: build all three on one topology, then break each in turn and learn what a user reports when it fails — because users never say “DNS is down”.
  • Wireless deployment: plan channels to avoid interference, bring up a WLAN with WPA2 or WPA3, and measure what happens to throughput as clients are added.
  • Packet capture practice: capture a failing TCP handshake, a DNS lookup and a TLS negotiation, and explain each one from the capture alone.
  • Layer 2 hardening: configure port security and DHCP snooping, then attempt the attacks they prevent and confirm the switch stops you.
  • Fault-finding under time pressure: an instructor breaks a working network without telling you how. You have a fixed time and a method. This is the lab that changes how you work.

A note on college projects: if your college or university has a fixed project specification, share it with us and we will map the lab work to it where the syllabus allows. If a requirement falls outside what this course covers, we will say so rather than promise to cover it.

There is no vendor exam behind this course, so there is no official external syllabus to point you at — the syllabus is ours, and it is published in full on this page rather than held back until you enrol. Where the material overlaps a vendor exam we say so and link to that vendor's own page, so you can judge the overlap yourself instead of taking our word for it. We last checked the vendor details referenced in this course on 30 August 2026.

No, and we would rather say so plainly. This is a skills course. There is no exam attached to it and no vendor issues a certificate for it — what you get from us is a course completion certificate, which is not the same thing and we will not pretend otherwise. What the course does is give you the foundation the vendor exams assume you already have. If you go on to Cisco CCNA (200-301) afterwards, the addressing, switching, routing and services covered here are the ground that exam stands on, and we run a separate CCNA programme for that.

For this exam, live online is arguably the better fit, and the reason is the exam format. This course has no exam attached to it: you solve tasks from a command line in a browser terminal on your own machine. Training in exactly that setup means exam day is not the first time you work that way. The labs are cloud-hosted, so a classroom seat would give you the same browser terminal anyway — there is no lab hardware you would be missing out on.

Our only classroom is in Kharadi, Pune. Rather than claim a Rajkot centre we do not have, we deliver the same course live online to learners here. Sessions are two-way: you speak, share your screen and get your cluster debugged in real time, and you also get a chat channel to ask questions without interrupting the class.

Three things that matter for this exam specifically. Every session is recorded and stays available for a year, so you can replay a troubleshooting demo the night before the exam — a classroom session is gone once it ends. You read the trainer’s terminal on your own screen at your own font size instead of squinting at a projector, which matters when the work is all command line. And the hours you would have spent commuting go into lab time, which is what actually moves your course outcome.

A laptop or desktop, a stable internet connection of around 5 Mbps, and a headset. The labs run in your browser, so you do not need a powerful machine — no local cloud environment and no 16 GB RAM requirement.

We recommend the weekend batch for Rajkot learners. Weekend suits students/working professionals; weekday is preferable for learners seeking faster continuity. Final choice should follow current batch calendar.

The IT clusters in Rajkot are Metoda / industrial technology ecosystem. We list these for orientation only — we do not claim hiring relationships with employers there.

People starting in IT support, desktop or helpdesk roles who keep hitting network problems they cannot explain; system administrators who own servers but have never been taught the network underneath them; and anyone planning to attempt CCNA later who wants the fundamentals properly first. No prior networking knowledge is assumed.

If you already configure switches and routers at work, this will be below you — go straight to our CCNA programme. If you want a vendor certificate at the end, this course does not produce one, and you should pick a certification track instead. And if you are hoping to learn networking without doing lab work, the subject does not reward that.

Design an addressing plan from a written requirement, configure VLANs and inter-VLAN routing, set up static and OSPF routing between sites, configure NAT, DHCP and DNS, secure a network with access control lists and Layer 2 hardening, bring up a wireless network, and — most usefully — work out which layer a fault lives at before you start changing things.

You should be comfortable using a computer and willing to do arithmetic in binary once we have shown you how. Nothing else is assumed. We start from what a network is and build up.

What we can state about Rajkot: the IT clusters in Rajkot are Metoda / industrial technology ecosystem; the city has an established IT market; we deliver this course to Rajkot live online, and our only classroom is in Kharadi, Pune. What we cannot: how many computer networking roles are open in Rajkot right now; which employers in Rajkot run production systems; what a engineer is paid specifically in Rajkot; how many of our past learners came from Rajkot. We leave those blank rather than publishing a number we have not checked.

computer networking work in Rajkot sits mainly in Metoda / industrial technology ecosystem, and in remote-first teams. We list this for orientation only — we do not claim hiring relationships with any employer.
